I'll start with the basics of what I know about crypto and how I understand it. Note that I'm not a professional in this field. I myself got into crypto this year. So none of this counts as advice or anything related to it.

The origin of crypto dates back to 2008 when the blockchain came into play. Very simply put, cryptocurrency is a byproduct of blockchain.

What is blockchain now? I have another sheet on Blockchain which I'm yet to update. Till then, let's understand few basic situations.

It's not ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to understand blockchain as a technology to understand crypto but it's important to understand the problem that blockchain or crypto is solving.

This page aims to help give you an introduction to crypto and lead you to resources that can help you understand crypto better.

History

Why is there this buzz of crypto? I'm sure you've seen Elon Musk tweet about Bitcoin or Dogecoin. But what the hell is it?

To understand the present, we need to look back at history. In the olden days, we started from a barter system (which is basically if I have rice and you have a water bottle then we can exchange them with each other if we want it.)

After the barter system, we came to coins and eventually notes. The concept of money as we know today.

This note system which is governed by the government is also called the [fiat system](https://www.investopedia.com/terms/f/fiatmoney.asp#:~:text=Fiat money is a government,U.S. dollar%2C are fiat currencies.) (you'll hear this quite often if you get more into crypto).

So the question arises that why did we go from barter system to coins or notes? It's simple, coins and notes were a better system than the barter system.
