This is an interesting topic to talk on because I've done quite a few mistakes in this one and whenever I open sites like LinkedIn, I see people doing the same thing.

So the typical process with LinkedIn would be to drop down your email under a post which is telling you, "Hey, we're giving out internships. Give us your email."

Now, this may actually work for some people but in my own experience it hasn't. In hindsight, it's logical to think why it didn't work.

Simply because it's not just you commenting, it's other people as well. So the question now becomes, "How can I stand out?"

We'll go through that but first let's understand how Covid hit businesses.

Understanding internships and Covid:

The ideal version of an internship is if you have a skill, you go to company to add value to them with your skills, get paid in return and start your experience in the real world as you learn simple things such as meetings, reviewing, correcting your work, etc.

What you and I as college students, yet to step out into the real world need to understand is after covid, companies have gone into survival mode. Many companies have had a hit on finances and that's also led to employees themselves being laid off, forget thinking of interns.

The good news is though, this could be your opportunity to thrive in crisis. If you have a skill which is valued, you're at a massive advantage. Why?

Because 'intern' is just a label. End of the day, the company will only see if you can do the job or not and if you have the skill, who can complain?
